The Higgins Lake Foundation 18th annual “Lake Saver Day” for the fourth-grade students of Roscommon Elementary School was held at the R.A. Conference Center on Thursday, May 30. Each student received an official “Lake Saver” certificate at the end of the day.
The students learned about erosion, Higgins Lake history, water cycles, aquatic invasive species, how boat wash and boat cleaning stations work, some timely boating and swimming safety tips, and how to use a compass. It wasn’t quite warm enough for the students to take off their shoes and sample the water in Higgins Lake, but they had a great outdoor learning experience and enjoyed a delicious hot dog lunch on the beach.
The Higgins Lake Foundation thanks the R.A. McMullan Conference Center and all the presenters who made the day a success! Presenters were, Teachers, Shannon House, Rhonda Hutek, school staff members, Sam Goodall and Heather Sargent, Roscommon Sheriff Marine Patrol Deputies, Kevin Rose and Ed Marek, Gerrish Police Department, Sergent John Wybraniec, Gahagan Nature Preserve, Education Director, Kalsa Parker Browning, Extension Educator-MSU Extension, Julie Crick, Presenters from Camp Grayling, Lindsay Dalke and Sean Little, DNR North State Park Manager, Logan Graff, Compass Course Leaders, Don Correll and Rick Meeks, community volunteers, ChiChi Flewelling and Nancy Perry.
